Perils of the Expecting Father

I'll spare you the horror stories, but The Mother of My Children, who is very medically-minded, decided both times that she wanted to do natural childbirth in a hospital as the best of both worlds.

As part of that plan the second time we hired a doula, a specialist in all the TLC and one-to-one care before, during and after that doctors don't have the time to do. Unlike a midwife, a doula is not expected to actually catch the baby. The doula was the best thing about the whole experience (other than the baby, of course).

Anyway, both times She went into the thing with the intention of doing natural childbirth and both times she was begging for drugs before it was over. Somehow a natural postpartum amnesia after the first one caused her to try the same strategy again. After the second one she threatened to form Mothers Against Natural Childbirth to counter all the hippie-momma propaganda.

But what the heck, to each her own. Like you, I would have done whatever She wanted.
